Operation and Design
The SF-7100SY Is a pocket diary/organizer released around August of 1999, and would be one of the final releases for digital diaries by Casio. Functionally similar to PDAs, any personal or business-oriented information, such as schedules, contacts, memos, and expenses can be recorded in the device, as well as be able to perform basic math and conversions rates for currency and measurement. It also has a backlight for night use, a small section for games, and a data port that can communicate with another digital diary or a whole computer via software.
Every functional part of the device is underneath 2 flip-top shells, made of rigid plastic styled in shimmery blue. both shells are joined by a hinge in the middle, and lock shut when closed by a latch that can be released by a button on the front edge of the device. To the left hand-side of the device, The rubber hatch to the data port is located, which conceals a jack port that uses a special cable for communication. On the bottom of the device, the left side holds the reset button above the memory backup hatch, and above that in the middle, a switch that locks/unlocks the battery compartment above it for power maintenance.
Inside, the top shell only holds the display, while the bottom shell holds all of the buttons that are used to operate the device. Most of these buttons make up the QWERTY keyboard on the lower and mid sections of the full keypad, and the 2 rows of keys above it hold the number and mode keys. The rest of the buttons, mainly the ones on the top right and top far left, are reserved for navigation and controls for power, data and the backlight, repsectively.
