Keyboard & Track Pad Odd Behavior

Power Button ✔️ Caps Lock ✔️ Track pad Movement. ✔️ I can perform a PRAM reset (Opt+Cmd+P+R) ✔️ Function keys all OK ✔️

Powers on OK, I arrive at the set up to screen (High Sierra) and no keys are responding exceptthe function keys & there is no click function from the track pad but the cursor is moving. Connections are clean & cables are undamaged & fully seated & latched. The volume, KB backlight level indicator & the display brightness indicator the level bar is in reverse (Black 1st white 2nd)! weird.

Everything 'Was' working before..... Track pad has been swapped out 3x with no difference in actions. Whats going on?

We have replaced the LCD connector which was damaged with a 2012 LCD connector on a 2011 A1278 and replaced the LVDS cable and we now have a picture, but this shouldn't cause odd behavior with the KB & TP? But it might be the cause of reversed colors on the display but we cannot fully varify until we can get past the set up screen.

UPDATE 11/03/26 - Replaced the keyboard and now everything is working well except there is no click on the track pad, having swapped over numbers track pads and their cables and cleaning and swapping over tension screws, it is still without the click function. I am truly baffled.

Disconnect the keyboard and plug in a USB keyboard does that work?

@danj I can try that, but pre boot I can do a PRAM reset so I presume the KB must be working, and when set up loads the function keys are working but the colors are reversed. This must be related to the LVDS cable which I will replace again tomorrow with another.

@livfe - The keyboard has two modes, the first is working as it's hardwired, the second mode is via a decoder chip within the logic board. Using a USB keyboard uses the external keyboard decoder.

@danj OK so if I try the external KB and all is OK, then what am I looking for? It was all working fine before we replaced the LCD connector.

@livfe - inspect the area as you could have dislodged something.

Then the trackpad cable needs replacing, all of the pad's electronics is mounted to the cable Vs the pad's backside. Apple went back to a better setup as the heat buildup often killed the cable's electronics without a good heat dump (frame on the air, then back to the pads backside on the Pro's)

Here's the full version: Unibody MacBook Pro 13" Trackpad & Flex Kit (09-12)

Here's the cable it's self Apple P/N 821-1254

I have swapped over numerous Track Pads with their cables that are known to be functional, still no click. It must lay with the screw but have swapped over them also..... I have a box full of these parts here....

@livfe - the click sound is from the depressing of the dome switch the silver circle in the V cutout as seen in Step11 last image in the guide MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011 Trackpad Replacement. The compression causes the switch to close sending a signal to the logic within the cable and then onward to the logic board. So as you are getting the click sound the switch is working but the signal is not getting through. That's the cable, the connectors or the logic board it's self

@danj I think I can rule of the tension screw, the track pad, and its cable, which points me to the connection which looks clean free of any damage, so the board has a click trace issue...... I have to get out the schematics to find which line this is on @oldturkey03 do you know what I need to look at? JS5800 Pin 20 Z2_CLKIN?
