CPU 2 caller error, hardware or software?

My family member's M2 2022 MacBook Air has recently started to shut down randomly, and give the CPU 2 caller error upon restarting.

The first time it happened was a couple days ago, then it happened this morning, and then again this evening. The first two times it happened upon waking the computer up. The third time, it froze the screen, (blank screen freeze) and force restarted itself while being on.

Currently the family member is updating the computer to its latest OS, Sequoia.

Now from digging around on here, Dan has answered a question asking about this issue. From what I understand from what I read, it means the CPU is falling (in short form).

My main question here is how to resolve the issue. Is it hardware or software? I assume that it is a hardware issue.

But that brings to question, what do we do to fix the hardware issue? I suspect it would involve replacing something and such, some comments on Reddit mentioned the issue was resolved after replacing the entire display for example.

I am thinking of running a system diagnosis tomorrow in the morning to see if it will turn up anything as well, but I have a feeling we will still need to take it in or something.

The reason I ask all this, even knowing that the outcome will likely be the same is because my family member would like to take their device in as a last resort. So I assured them that I would ask about it here first.

Most likely a hardware issue within the SoC or the RAM chips. When you put the system to sleep it suspends what the system is doing preserving what’s in memory. When woken it should just pickup where it stopped. Here the expected data was not present or corrupted.

@danj - As I unfortunately suspected. In terms of fixing it, (likely replacing something), do you know which components and pieces may need to be replaced? Display, CPU, RAM, logic board, etc.

完成的

Sadly it’s a logic board unless touching up the logic board solder joints around the RAM chips if you have access to a hot air rework station. Even still that’s not a given

@danj - Unfortunately I don't have a rework station myself, but I do know someone who does. None the less, family member wants a proper job, so we will be taking it to, Apple, which will cost more likely.

The "CPU 2 caller" error on an M2 MacBook Air suggests a hardware issue, likely related to the logic board or CPU. While updating macOS may help, persistent crashes likely require Apple diagnosis, possibly involving logic board or display replacement.
