Model A1200 with 2.16 or 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo processor

Mac doesn't recognize HD.

At the beginning the mac started to slow down so I decided to reinstall the OS, when I did it kept running slow so I did it again. when it started up a question mark appeared on the screen, I looked on the internet and said the HD was broken so I changed it for another one that I had at home. when I turn on the mac the question mark appeared again. so I inserted the installation dvd, the dvd runs but when I have to chose the destination HD theres no HD to chose from.

now, is the HD that I installed broken? or could it be another problem.

Thanks

Sorry, I though Josh was going to answer this. You have to Boot from your system installation disk, go to the second page pull down menu to Utilities -> Disk Utility and format the drive before trying to install a system on it.

I've never worked with one of these iMacs, but here's my suggestion:

Could it be that the harddrive needs jumpers? I had an old PowerMac G3 that would exhibit the exact same symptoms as your iMac. I was able to fix it by setting the jumpers correctly.

If the above does not help, just sit tight a couple minutes- Mayer will be along to save the day! He's pretty good with diagnosing internal problems.

Haha, my bad. I've never dealt with SATA.

Should I delete my answer since it's not helpful?
