MacBook won't turn on after HDD replacement

I tried to update HDD yesterday. While that procedure, the rubber with holds HDD has moved and I could not get the HDD back in. So I gone mad and tried to remove the rubber with a knife. Took long time and I have not always hit the rubber but the metal of HDD shaft. May I cause s short circuit of LogicBoard?

Are you talking about the rubber bushings that the screws pass through to anchor the HD to the systems frame? Which side did you do this to the HD or the system frame?

Hey Dan,

I am talking about the bushings with anchors the HDD. After I first tried to reinsert the HDD they were gone into the back of the HDD shaft (were the Connectors are) and I needed to pull them out, I did it with a screwdriver and a knife (think that was my mistake). Now it wont turn back on, no reaction at all. But charging works

It seems unlikely that the problem you encountered with the HDD hurt the logic board. Have you tried the SMC reset? with battery out and power adapter disconnected press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds. Then put the battery back and reconnect the power adapter. It's amazing how many times that works. Good luck.

No, not the HDD itself, but the thing with anchors the HDD ;)

Robin - I'm happy you didn't damage the HDD. If the system is freezing up it starting to sound like you may have a software issue either the OS or something running as an add-on to the OS. First try running the Mac OS-X Disk Utility App to make sure you don't have a disk corruption (you may need to boot under the OS DVD or ext disk to make repairs). Make sure you've downloaded all of the updates for the OS and any of your apps. Did things improve?

You probably tried to install the hard drive upside down. Flip it over and try inserting it. Never try to work on any delicate machinery when anger or frustrated. Just walk away. If it's not repairing correctly, you're probably doing it wrong. Here's how to do it: MacBook Core 2 Duo Hard Drive Replacement

Hey, thanks for your answer!

It does not matter if the drive is inserted or not, the Mac still does not want to boot up.

The inserting did not work because the rubber bushing that anchored the HDD were pulled into the back right before the connectors and so the HDD did not fit in... I tried to get them out with a screwdriver and I think than I started all the mess.. -.- now it wont turn back on, completely no reaction. But its charging

Robin, there's really no way to diagnose what damage you may have done during your "repair". You're probably better off taking it in to a professional, we do have our place ;-)

Hey, thanks for help. The problem is that I even can't get the fans or a single light to work, so I can't use an external HDD to boot the system... :(

No, I couldn't see any damage. It's very hard to see damage because I haven't opened the case, just HDD shaft.

Robin -

It does sound like you damaged something, depending on what you damaged you may need a new HD, HD cable assy or worse the logic bd if you hit it with the knife.

Do you see any damage in any of the areas you were working in? Also check the connectors haven't been damaged and/or not mated together correctly.

If that doesn't point the way:

I would first start with an external HD (firewire) which has mac OS-X on it (bootable) to see if the system is working. If you are able to get it to come up thats a good sign the issue is either the HD it's self or the HD cable assy.

If you can get an external drive enclosure (FW or USB) you could try installing the HD in it and see if you can gain access to it. That then leaves the issue of a bad cable in which case you'll need to get a replacement.

NOTE: you can't disconnect the boot drive so if the external HD you booted from doesn't have a second FW port you will ned to use a USB connected enclosure to connect the suspect HD into (unless you have access to a second Mac system).

HDD Shaft??

Did you open the HD sub system case up in any way? if you did the HD is no longer workable! Hard drives MUST be opened ONLY under ultra clean conditions! even higher than what a hospital operating room has!
