Where Should I Start?

Hi!

I'm looking to get started into computer repair as a hobby and possibly turn it into a professional set up.

I'm looking to start with games consoles as I'm most familiar with those and fix issues with my personal ones with the intention of learning and progressing.

What toolkit would you reccomend for someone that is new to this field? I

Hi!

Start with the Ifixit Pro Tech toolkit. There is a lot in there and usefull for the game consoles. You also need solder equipment. So, the soldering iron is recommended as well.

Just start with the Pro Tech toolkit. It’s possible that you will miss some things (like the Xbox 360 opening tool). You will most likely get new hardware by learning over time which tools are required for the game consoles.

I'm just starting out small and fixing issues with my own controllers (PS4 & Xbox Series X Stick Drift) I bought the Xbox Toolkit and will attempt at a fix the issue. I will certainly buy the Professional ToolKit, so soon after Christmas isn't quite possible currently 😅

I've watched tons of YouTube videos and hopefully can fix both without needing to "operate".

I see you have lots of useful guides on your page and I hope to learn from them and take notes to have on hand 😊

Update:

I managed to strip and repair the Stick Drift in my Xbox Controller and also PS4 Controller. Also fixed L2 which just needed to be realignment.

Thank you for the tips!

I plan on Cleaning my Series X and fixing a button my Nintendo Switch over the coming days, just need some Isopropyl Alcohol 😊
