1.5 Core Solo, 1.66 or 1.83 Core Duo, or 1.83 or 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor. This covers the first Intel-based Mac Mini models from Early 2006 to Mid 2007.

Will a T9600 CPU work in Mac Mini A1176?

I am interested in upagading a mid 2007 Mac Mini to the maxium RAM and CPU the logic board can support. I want to know if a T9600 CPU and 4GB or 8GB of RAM will work if this processor works?

I believe the T9600 uses the P socket and your machine an M socket. It will take a T7600. See this previous answer on a similar question: Core Duo CPU upgrade to Core 2 Duo CPU?

Here's some info on the M socket: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_M

UPDATE

GeekBench scores should look like this:

MacMini 1.5 Ghz solo about 1400

Mac Mini 1.66 Ghz core duo about 2100

Mac Mini 1.83 Core 2 duo about 2350

Mac Mini 2.0 Core 2 duo about 2600

Mac Mini 2.0 2009 about 2750

the 2.26 about 3200

Thanks Mayer. Well, if the socket is different, I guess the T9600 is a no go. Do you know if the T7600 is the fastest M socket processor that can be used in this machine? Also, will the machine have the same 3+GB RAM limitation with the T7600? I was wondering if the ability to address RAM is a function of code on the processor, or other chip(s) on the logic board.

The fastest socket M processors are Core 2 Duo Mobile T7600 and core 2 Duo Mobile T7600G. The T7600G has unlocked clock multiplier and can be overclocked, but it's very expensive and very difficult to find.

The fastest CPU known to work on the MacMini isT7600, that I know of, is the 2.33 GHz. RAM capacity has remained the same on all the machines I have upgraded.

Here's an eBay seller that seems to know his stuff on this CPU: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-iMac-Mac-M...
