My ps2 recognizes ps1 games as if they were ps2
That's it, when I enter the PS2 menu, the disk is recognized as a PS2 (the icon is a blue disk) instead of being recognized as a PS1 with its black disk icon
My ps2 is a Slim SCPH-90001 with a DMS4 1.0 LITE modchip

This is caused by the mod chip. But, do the games actually work (PS1 and PS2 games)?

@dan0 I'm almost sure that they work, the discs are original and it reads them, and they are also not scratched.
By the way, the game is metal gear solid Japanese version, and I don't have access to a PS1 ntsc-j to try the disc there

Alright! Glad that it works! But yeah, it’s caused by the modchip. Best thing to do is to remove it or replace it..
