Is there any way to get battery info without a logic board?

Hi,

I have a number of A2141 top cases which have had the logic boards removed for security purposes. Currently, I do not have an A2141 logic board at my disposal to test the batteries.

Is there any way to get battery information such as (1) battery cycle count, (2) health etc. using another method?

Thanks,

Ben.

Not that I am aware of, but there could be tools I have not yet seen around. There are tools like this for iPhone, but not for Mac. Health you could calculate, but it's more work that it's worth. It would require charging the battery up, then running something with a constant load off the battery and calculating present capacity based on discharge times. Then comparing that to the advertised max capacity.

Unfortunately, a compatible board will be the easiest way.

Thanks for the quick and detailed response. How do these battery tools work in the context of an iPhone. I'm wondering whether this information might get me closer to a solution, although I do agree having a compatible logic board is the most straight forward method.

@benstanway other than software tools that require you to have the proper logic boards, you can get battery analyzers. The issues with Apple batteries is that they are not easy to talk to with common analyzers. Unless you want to specialize in battery repair/rebuild etc. the cost of those analyzer etc. is pretty steep. I was looking into something like this but nope, I do not mess with too many batteries to justify the cost :-)

@oldturkey03 - $360 is a bit of change and you still need a PC system to run the app! So unless you are a shop with a sizable need its a bit much.

@danj correct. Hence my decision not to invest in this for now as stated and my agreement with @flannelist. That is the best answer!

I have managed to acquire a logic board for testing. As I have a number of top cases, I was wondering whether it would be possible to test each of these top cases (circa 10) without having fit the logic board into each individual top case for testing. I understand that fitting into each top case for testing is beneficial for testing other components such as the keyboard, touchbar etc.; for now, my main interest is the batteries. I understand that there are LVDS extension cables available for screen testing and was wondering whether there might be anything similar for battery testing.
