Hi! I was looking at the replacement for the iphone 13 screen, and there is this black pad on the back of the screen. So this may be a stupid question, but what is it? Is there something underneath it, or the part of the display connector underneath it?

Which one? Can you show a picture?
If it is the big black plate, it's for structural, EMI shielding and thermal dissipation purposes.

Thanks for your comment! I added a picture to the post. I had a broken screen (broken ribbon cable) and was curious what the black part was for. I pulled the display connector off and pulled the black part back and saw a gray paste like substance.
