Tv turns off after seconds of changing to hdmi
Hello!
Very odd one, totally fine working on its own, as soon as switch to hdmi (any slot, any device attached) it turns the TV off!
Any suggestions? Thanks I'm advance :)

As mentioned above it seems as though there's a problem with the HDMI controller on the "A" board in the TV.
You could try performing a self check procedure as described on p.13 of the TX L42E5B Service Manual and see whether it shows a problem with the HDMI-switch or not.
If it does replacing the HDMI switch (IC4700) is not really a DIY repair as it is a multi pin IC (example only to show part)
You could try replacing the A board (check on the board if it is marked TNP8EA114 9A TXN/A20NYUBM or similar) and then search online using the number to find suppliers. A quick search using the aforementioned A board number, showed that they're not that expensive.
The manual shows where it is located - see p.10.
Be safety aware if you decide to replace the A board. Disconnect the power to the TV before removing the back cover from the TV and do not connect it again until the board has been replaced and the cover put back on again.

@dannimaisner could be an issue with the HDMI IC on the main board. Does it work if you connect your TV via COAX, Composite or any other way except HDMI? Does it show things properly, functions normal? Let us know what it does and let us know what exact model your TV is.

Model is TX-L42E5B
It's quite happy in TV mode and can click through buttons and whilst there's no signal, it does remain on.
As soon as you press AV it auto changes to hdmi 1 and it doesn't matter how fast I try to get to av2 to test that, it goes off.

What happens if you disconnect all devices connected to the HDMI ports and then try selecting AV?
Does it turn off or sit there on the AV or HDMI port you selected but with no signal obviously or does it revert back to the co-ax port which has a signal?
