Upgrade to BT 4.2 issue with antenna

Hi guys,

I updated my cMP 5.1 to BCM943602CDP (BT 4.2) but I don't have extension cable for BT antenna so I used different one (from ASUS Vivo PC - please see attached picture). Now I can see that I have BT 4.2 in System Preferences but can't connect any devices unless there are few inches from Mac. But If I take out the side panel the connections is better (the antenna is located on the top of the front CPU 120mm fan).

Q1: Is this just antenna issue ? So I need the extension cable and everything will be OK ? (original bluetooth antenna is located at the end of the Mac but it's look like is attached to the case)

Q2: Is there any differences between BT antenna extension cable and Wi-Fi antenna extension cable ?

Where did you place the antenna? The Mac Pro is a metal box and will likely shield an antenna which is located inside of it, unless it's in a similar location to the original antenna.

In terms of connections, you should carefully check that the connector for the antenna is actually the correct one for the bluetooth module. There are a few different small-form-factor connectors that these types of cards use, and while they generally look alike, they aren't all compatible with each other.

Unfortunately it's inside on the top of the from CPU fan :( So there is no different between cables - just connectors are different ?

I would drill a hole or route the cable though one of the card slots so you can mount the antenna externally. I would create a plastic or wood frame to support it.

The coax fl connector system is the same across BT & WiFi antennas.

I like to used the original antenna as it's have good range cover :)
