I have the same issue with my Power Suppl

I have the same issue with my Power Supply. The two resisters R404 and R405 are blown. I am not able figure out what they are based on color ring sequence does not exist. Sequence is green, gold, silver, gray and blue. Was told by a tech at Digi-key that gold and silver should be at end of sequence because they are tolerance values. How do I figure out what I replace them with? Alan

Update (05/08/23)

I have the power supply issue. Resistors R404 and R405 are blown. Color sequence is green, gold, silver, gray and blue. That sequence does not seem to exist. Help.

@alzal1 that is correct. On a 5 band resistor you would expect ring 4 and 5 to be either Gold or Silver. You can't have any other color following those. At this time the best thing to do would be to let us see what you see. Post some GOOD image of those resistors with your QUESTION. That way we can see what you see. @alzal1 the only time I have seen a band following the Gold one is on a 6 band resistor where it is the temp coefficient. Darn that is a new one for me. Maybe @tech_ni @dadibrokeit or @jayeff can give you a better answer.

There is a lot of variation in resistor color coding, so you kind of have to look around a lot for some of these. On yours in particular, I think you're reading from the wrong direction. My interpretation is blue-gray-silver-gold-green. I'm looking at a site called eepower.com that has the following chart.

Block Image

  • Blue = 1st Digit = 6
  • Gray = 2nd Digit = 8
  • Silver = Multiplier = x .01
  • Gold = Tolerance = +/- 5%
  • Green = Temp Coefficient = 20 ppm/C

Their diagram for a 5 band resistor is as follows.

So yeah, if we follow their instructions for band 4 being gold or silver, then that would be a 0.68 ohm resistor with a 5% tolerance and 20 ppm/C temperature coefficient.

That's my best guess

Where did u get r404 resistor from ?

@glennjacklitsch I haven't checked personally, but back when I was designing and building circuit boards I got most of my parts from digikey.com and/or mouser.com. I'm sure one of both of those sites will have what you're looking for.
