1 Can it Boot without battery?
I am in possession of an ipod where I have no info on it's past.
It has no battery in it, but when I plug a sync cable into the port it boots up to the apple logo then reboots over and over again. It's my understanding that the ipod NEEDS a battery attached to it in order to boot... is this true or not?
If it does need a battery then something must be shorted, what should I look for?
Carpenter940, all the ones I fixed needed a battery to at least work partially (boot)and for further trouble shooting.

Any idea on why mine boots without battery other than haunted? The moisture strip is red.

Maybe once I get the battery I can update it's firmware and that might fix it.
