OLED display truetone replacement

Just to expand on what @barriphone said, yes, the programmers work on both LCD and OLED screens; they're not actually programming the screen itself but rather a small memory chip mounted on the screen. That chip holds a number that the phone uses to check that it's the "correct" screen.

There seem to be two programmers that are popular with repair people; I have the Qian Li iCopy programmer myself, and the other one is the JC V1s device. They will both do the basic True Tone data copying, along with things like resetting battery statistics and a few other things. I haven't verified this, but it appears the V1s may have a little more capability for programming certain features related to Face ID and Touch ID, but details are somewhat sketchy, so you'd definitely have to do your homework on that.

With either of them you can copy the True Tone data directly from the old screen and program it into the new one. In addition, you can use the JC software or 3uTools to retrieve that number from the phone itself and then program it into a replacement screen, so it can still be restored even if the old screen has been discarded or isn't functional.
