So recently I got a apple watch series 5 from a friend and asked me if I could fix it. The watch just never turned on or showed any sign of charging. I wanted to come here and ask if you guys think it is a battery or a motherboard issue? I mean, Its brand new but has not been charged for 3 years. Last night I plugged it in and still no signs. I also opened it up, and it looks like the battery is not swelling. Any ideas?

Well, It just got here. It started bootlooping, so i thought maybe bad connection. Well, I was right. The connector and battery split in 2. I am so mad right now. I spent $42 and 6 days waiting, and now all of a sudden, when I was trying to unplug it from the battery to plug it in again for a better connection, It just split in 2. It was the battery though, because it had shown nothing with the old battery.

Did you check the batteries voltage? I would do that to help aim which way.

I did, and it did not even register. Also the battery is thinner than a new one.
@haw8411 - The battery is no different. Are you saying the original battery has puffed up?
@dan No it deflated, It got smaller
@haw8411 - That makes little sense, the proper replacement battery should be physically the same size unless the original battery had puffed up which the do when they have gone bad.
Are you sure the replacement is the correct battery? Does the watch work with it?
@dan I have not got the replacement battery yet. The original has gotten smaller.
