MacBook 2007 fans and hard drive spin up but no POST chime

Hi,

I use my old MacBook as a backup server running Mac OS X Server with an external hard drive for time machine backups. The other day, it just stopped working. The fans and hard drive spin up but there is no POST chime. This exact thing happened last year, but it fixed itself/i may have fixed it but have forgotten how.

What I have tried:

Resetting NVRAM/PRAM

Resetting SMC

Reseating the RAM

Booting without RAM

Booting without PRAM battery

Booting without various components attached

Running the computer in its "broken" state for hours

Any suggestions?

Given the systems age you likely need a new PRAM battery MacBook Core 2 Duo PRAM Battery Replacement

Your primary battery is likely shot too and the system won’t run properly without a good battery. That’s a bit of an uphill climb as these battery packs aren’t made any more. Hopefully you have a few so you can carefully pull I one apart to gain access to the cells inside so you can rebuild it by getting the proper cells.

And lastly, you could be facing a worn out component within the logic board like the capacitors which breakdown with age.

Time to visit a local independent repair shop who can help you.
