Won't Charge Charge Port Issue

I wish ifixit would post a how to replace the charge port for the iPad 6th generation, because mine won't charge up anymore. I was able to bend the cable connector end a bit to get it to charge but now it won't do that anymore. The charge port has felt a bit loose inside for about a year now, so I know that is the issue.

Sadly, it is quite difficult to replace the charging port as it is not just a plug in and unplug setup like the battery is. Most likely the reason that you can't find a guide is because you have to micro solder. You could probably find a guide on YouTube.

I was afraid it would be a difficult repair. Really sucks when this one part is causing me to throw it away and have to buy a new one.

Why throw it away? Plenty of mobile repair shops should be able to replace it.

Because it's just not worth the cost for the repair. I ended up buy a new 9th gen iPad from Costco on sale for $264. I still have a 1st gen iPad that needs the battery replaced and I could do that, but not worth my time considering its hardware limitations. I'll probably have to smash that one up because I can't power it up so I am able to wipe my data off it.

@resist Please don't smash it up. Replace the battery, then wipe your data, then sell it

Does your charger sit all the way flush with the bottom of the iPad? It's possible there's just some crud in there that is preventing the cable from making good contact. Have a look into the port with a flashlight and if it looks like there's anything stuck, use a toothpick to try and fish it out. Just be as gentle as possible to avoid damaging the pins.

Agree to the previous answer regarding the need for solder know how to complete this repair. That being said, I wouldn't give up if you aren't personally comfortable with the repair. There are lots of repair shops that can do this repair. I would see if there are any mobile device repair places local to you that do this. Ask people you know if they have any recommendations.

As for an iFixit Guide. There are lots of good YouTube videos for this (I might have to do some sleuthing to find a link) Its actually not a terribly difficult solder job as far as iPad repairs go. But it does require some specific tools. And I wouldn't recommend it to someone with absolutely no solder experience. But soldering is fun. And it's less intimidating than people think. It just takes practice.

No, there is no crud preventing the cable from making good contact. I've been through this before with an iPhone. The lightning cable is prone to contact failures. But as I said, I bought a 9th Gen iPad from Costco for $264. I really hate how Apple makes throw away products now. We can't replace batteries easily, RAM or hard drives anymore. Straight out money grab by Apple because they know most people will upgrade to a newer machine than pay someone else to extend an old machines life or try to upgrade it themselves, because it's so time consuming and difficult.

I watched several videos and this one seems to be the most detailed. I haven't attempted this yet but will post the results of the accuracy upon my completion of repair. Feel free to let me know if it worked for you.
