Your answer was precise, to the point and reassuring enough to persuade me to charge ahead. I think I should have the replacement in hand before starting. I'll let you know how it goes

Hi Randy,

There are replacement screens readily available for your Chromebook; just put your model into a search engine and the word screen or lcd (or both) and you'll come up with plenty of options to choose from. I saw them on eBay, Amazon and several other sites. Here's a representative sample for you.

Screen for Samsung GALAXY CHROMEBOOK GO XE345XDA SERIES. Replacement Laptop LCD Screen

Another way you can find a screen is to open up the display and look on the back of the LCD. There will usually be a manufacturer's label with a model number and you can use that information to search for a screen. Chromebooks seem to be pretty consistent in using off-the-shelf LCDs rather than design one specifically for that model, so it's quite likely you'll find that same LCD used in other models of Chromebooks and laptops. I've located hard-to-find displays that way and also was able to find some that were very inexpensive being sold for a different brand of laptop.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a guide or a video on your specific model. However, I did go through all of the Samsung Chromebook screen replacement guides available on iFixit, and it looks like a fairly safe bet it's going to follow what is basically standard procedure for screen replacement on a Chromebook.

  1. Remove the bezel on the display. You usually just slip a thin tool under it and work it away from the display all the way around. There may be covers over the hinges you'll have to figure out how to deal with; it's usually pretty straight-forward.
  2. Unscrew the mounting screws holding the LCD to the top case. If there aren't any screws visible, then it's most likely held on with adhesive, so use an opening tool to slice through the adhesive.
  3. With the laptop open, lay the LCD down on the keyboard to expose the rear side.
  4. There will be a wide connector (usually about 30 pins or so) covered by a piece of tape. Remove the tape then the cable should simply slide out of the connector.

Normally that's it; you're done at that point and just have to swap the new screen for the old one and follow the instructions in reverse order.

Here's one of the few screen guides available for a Samsung Chromebook.

Samsung Chromebook 2 Screen Replacement - iFixit Repair Guide

A note from my own experience replacing Chromebook screens (not Samsung, though). The guide shows you opening it up and removing the battery. That's not a bad idea, but actually removing the battery from the laptop isn't necessary; for replacing the screen you would just disconnect it. That's the safest way to do it, but as long as the laptop is shut down and you don't accidentally power it up while you're working on it, it's usually okay to do it with the battery plugged in.

If you get to a point where you're unsure what to do next, come on back here and ask. You could even take pictures at each step and use your experience to create your own guide to help the next guy who needs to know how to do this!

Apologies on reviving a dead post.

But I have recently broken my screen on this same exact laptop. and was looking at the screens from the link provided above it lists a glossy and matte screen.

Are those device specific or is it more of a personal preference.

Hi Emmett,

Whether you get the glossy or matte screen is entirely a matter of personal taste; there aren't any other considerations you need to take into account when picking one. I usually just get the same one that's on it originally, but then again I am normally replacing them for someone else not myself.

I appreciate the quick answer. This is my first time replacing a screen that's more universal and not proprietary or a 1-1 replacement.

Seems like matte will be the way to go.
