I have an Apple cinema display 30-inch 2007. I can't get the resolution up to 1280x800. i changed all connections dvi, hdmi. I work with a 2013 Mac Pro 6.1 and a 2010 Mac Pro.

I have two 30-inch 2007 displays and one works fine at 2560x1600 resolution. The other connecting to the same computer only gives 1280x800 resolution.

Is there any new firmware someone could help me?.

What do you think is the fault?

Thank you very much. Regards Harry Macias

You do need to make sure the DVI cable offers 1920 x 1200 or 2048 x 1280 for single-link resolution or 2560 x 1600 resolution with dual-link format

Types of DVI cables:

There are three types of DVI cables available at this point in time.

  • DVI-A: This cable transfers analog signals only. This connector is used to connect a DVI card to a CRT monitor (an older type of monitor). The signal from this cable is converted from digital to analog but still produces higher image quality than VGA.
  • DVI-D: This cable transfers digital signals only. This is the most popular type of connector for hooking up DVI cards to LCD monitors. This cable comes in single-link and dual-link formats. The dual-link format offers more power and a faster data transfer rate than the single-link format.
  • DVI-I: This cable transfers both digital and analog signals and is compatible with digital and analog equipment, acting as a DVI-D or DVI-A cable. With that said, it cannot convert pure DVI-D output to analog.

Goodnight. Thanks for your reply. I use to test the same cable that works at maximum resolution in a 30" cinema. With the computer that is currently working at maximum resolution. When I connect it to the Cimema 30" that does not give maximum resolution, the screen lights up with stripes of vertical and horizontal colors without letting see the image that is behind. I have tried all types of connectors and found out what type of DVI to use.

@harrymacias - Then the circuitry within the display is having problems.

When I connect it to the macpro 6.1 the resolution that it supports or the maximum that it indicates in the screen configuration is 1280x800. The cable I use is Thunderbolt and DVI 4K X 2K connector. That according to the seller gives the resolution 2560x1600.

Ok.Would it be likely that it does not work at maximum resolution and if at half? I think that if you remove a cinema and change it for another it should still work fine. Which plate would be the one that has to be changed?@danj

@harrymacias - I'm confused, Same system MacPro6,1 (TrashCan) display A works and display B using the same cable. If that's true then it's the display.

If you are having issues with your MacPro (2010 Cheese Grater) MacPro5,1 then you have an issue with the GPU board. If it works correctly on the TrashCan.

Hey, have you managed to solve this?

I have the same problem on my monitor and I am (apparently) the right adapter for my computer, a Dual Link to USB C (the club 3D one). I also got similar stripes as you. This adapter should have enough bandwidth so I am almost sure it must be something with the monitor.

Thanks
