Won’t Turn on

Just recently I decided to check out my old DS games, but my DS has a major piece of plastic chipped off the hinge, and it won’t turn on for more than a second. Continues to be the case if I even have it plugged in while turning it on. I’d rather not have to take it into a repair shop, and I’m not sure if the problem is just the hinge, or if there is something else. Tried reinstalling the battery, and that wasn’t the problem. I don’t remember what happened to cause this, since it’s been probably 5+ years since I picked it up and actually played.
