wanted: schematic for Diversified Power International DPI board dpi-36

On the specification panel of the enclosing charger box it has

MODEL: 1-36018-04

S/W: DPI-36C018-D02

On the board itself is: PCBC0048-R18

I want to bypass the AC to the board and inject DC voltage directly into the input of the control circuitry (i.e. from a solar panel).

I need the board schematic to figure where to inject the DC voltage.

Thanks in advance for any help.

@mac2121 what make and model etc. is your cart?

I do not have a golf cart.

I want a schematic for this particular charger unit so I can bypass the AC input and continue to use the charging facilities of the board. The transformer has burnt out and I have an extra solar panel to provide DC directly into the board. I need to know where on the board to inject that DC.

Hi @mac2121 ,

Here’s the charger manual that may be of some help.

The model number you quoted is listed on the cover page and there is a schematic on p.13.

There is no schematic for the pcb itself only where the AC is connected to the pcb board and on what terminals the DC output is.

I don’t think that it is as simple as injecting DC on the pcb and using the charger controls as the charger may adjust the AC input supply to affect how much DC is being supplied to the battery. The schematic indicates that the transformer has two outputs into the charger so it may use both or only one as required, I don’t know

Thank you for the link to the charger manual. I have looked at their wiring diagram. Curious, the two inputs to the charger. The transformer is burnt out on the charger my friend has 'in the boondocks' of Texas hill country (and I did not have my tools with me when I visited my friend).

Without seeing the schematic to the actual board, or doing significant lab analysis of the board, or talking with the designer/'someone who knows', then it is difficult to know where the significant spots are on the board. DPI does talk about the stages the board does in charging a battery (good for them).

Thank you, Luke & Kyle for starting iFixit (see About iFixit ) to help folks wanting to repair their purchased products, rather than throwing them away and buying new.

Thanks for helping, @jaeff . I will contact DPI and report later.

You may have some problems using a solar panel as there isn't a steady voltage output from it all the time as it can vary depending on conditions.

I don't know what the charger may do if the input voltage from the panel falls below a certain threshold for example. It mightn't like it as it was designed for a continuous supply at a set value.

I have left a voice mail with, and sent an email to Diversified Power International (DPI) requesting a link to a schematic diagram to the printed circuit board in question.

I will update later with whatever results I receive.

Diversified Power International LLC responded promptly to my email to them requesting a schematic for the printed circuit board. Kudos for fast response.

Their schematics are proprietary and confidential. This is a (if not _the_) bane of the modern day must-make-profit/do-not-repair/landfill-creating corporate viewpoint of technology.

Having said that, the person I spoke with was very helpful within the confines of his employment. But, no schematic, and I don’t think he (nor did I expect him to) could really tell me how to hack their board. And, kudos for that.

So, if a schematic ever does turn up, please post a link or image file to this iFixit thread.
