Are these lines on the display fixable?
I just replaced the HD in my iMac with an SSD. I’ve opened iMacs up before and had no problem. I made sure I checked all the connectors. I followed the iFixit directions. I put the adhesive strips in place, then put the display in place and used painter’s tape to keep the bottom edge of the screen in place. Once that was done, and with the computer still held tilted back (by the foam padding), I lifted the top of the screen to attach the power and data cables.
When I powered on, this is what I got. I unplugged it, double-checked the connectors. No dirt, no bent things - all connected as it should be. I turned it on again to check it and get this photo. After I took the photo, I did see the Apple logo and the progress bar come up, so the display is active, but I still unplugged it again. I don’t know if this is already permanent damage or if it’s fixable. I don’t want to leave it running at this point because I don’t know if leaving it on will cause more damage, like frying capacitors or something like that.
So is this a case of once you see it happen, it’s gone? Or is it fixable if I do things like cleaning and checking connectors? And if it’s gone, what’s the best way to get a replacement display quickly? The Apple store won’t sell just a part like this, right?
