Hi

Please can someone confirm what size pogo pins can be used on an A1297

According to the schematic, they are

1.4DIA-SHORT-EMI-MLB-M97-M98 and 2.0DIA-TALL-EMI-MLB-M97-M98

Can someone advise replacements and sizes

Thanks all

Hi

I have attached some images to show the pogo pins

I know they are not critical but it will be helpful to know the size or suitable size replacement that will fit all of them

It will help others who might be looking for the same answer

Looking at the schematic it says

1.4DIA-SHORT-EMI-MLB-M97-M98 and 2.0DIA-TALL-EMI-MLB-M97-M98

I am not sure what it means by 1.4 and 2.0 but upon measuring the pogo pins seems like all of them are 2.0mm in diameter the height is different but the ones I measured on seem like they have been depressed down so they are all different

From My measurements, I have found

2.0mm diameter

4.50mm total height

If someone can please confirm suitable size replacements that would be really appreciated

Thanks all

@Mr Fz since you still have the old ones, take a look at places like this and see if you can match them up. Remember, those Pogo pins are just grounding the logic board and prevent EMI between certain high-frequency signals. Your MacBookPro will work fine without them

@oldturkey03 Hi Do you happen to know what would be appropriate measurements for replacements please

Thanks

@Mr Fz I only have a couple of logic boards here but no pins so I can not measure any of those. I would expect the 1.4DIA and the 2.0DIA making reference to the DIAmeter but as for length etc. The EMI would be what they are being used for (which is typical use) I could not tell you since I have none here to measure. Did all of yours break?

Thanks for the reply

When i measured the diameter they both seem to be 2.0mm but then length varies

so not sure

Logically it would make sense that 1.4DIA and 2.0DIA is diameter but length is not stated

When looking for replacements the smallest size is 2.0mm so it makes me think that 1.4DIA and 2.0DIA means something different

These pins are used in the manufacturing process they have limited benefit as they are mostly grounded. Please ID which pin is missing or damaged

Mr FZ - These pins on the side are only grounding pins to control the EMI missing one or two won't really matter.

Leave them be!

Hi

I know these are for EMI shielding and ground but would be useful to know as well for others if

I can use 2.0mm diameter and 4.50mm height pogo pins, for all of them

Thanks so much

@Mr Fz - The height is set by the distance to the bottom cover and the amount of compression the pin can achieve. The port edge ones are all the same.

Frankly, I would dig out an old dead board to desolder the one I needed if I would to replace it. Again, you're going to far on such a small issue. Read up on Faraday Cage to get a better idea why this is not such a big issue with one missing pin.

I understand where you are coming from and I have read that they are not needed but some people have mentioned without good ground it can cause some weird problems

But also this may help others as well who are in the same situation

I don't have any other boards to take from

I understand that the pins are springy and depressed by compression when in the case but would the 4.50mm height be ok for all of them?

@Mr Fz - Measure the neighboring pins thats what you need (extended). I don't have a system to measure and I disposed of all of my 17" parts quite while ago.
