replacing my iMacs gpu

Right now my iMac has the Radeon HD 5750. Due to freezes and failures, i have decided to replace the gpu.
1. What are my options (graphic cards) regarding the GPU replacement?
2. Will the Ati HD 6750 work seamlessly?

Your official choices for your system

  • ATI (AMD) Radeon HD 5750, 512 MB V-RAM, Apple P/N 661-5578
  • ATI (AMD) Radeon HD 5750, 1 GB V-RAM Apple P/N 661-5579

2011 MXM boards

  • AMD Radeon HD 6770, 512 MB V-RAM Apple P/N 661-5567
  • AMD Radeon HD 6970, 1 GB V-RAM Apple P/N 661-5568
  • AMD Radeon HD 6970, 2 GB V-RAM Apple P/N 661-5569

The problem is finding one that is still working! Many people pushed their systems harder than these GPU boards where designed to support running heavy graphics tasks.

Also keep in mind the Apple boards have special firmware, unless you know how to burn the EEROM its best to stick with the real ones.

2. Will they work seamless if installed on my iMac?

3. What do u mean by "stick with the real ones"?

Review this guide iMac 27寸(2009年下半年至2010年款)显卡更换

This series uses a MXM board assembly which holds the GPU chip its self. As you can see it's quite a bit of work!

Apple uses custom firmware on these boards held in a small EEROM chip. So getting a Dell board or other system MXM board won't work without the firmware on the board being replaced. Only the real Apple boards will work seamlessly without alteration which in its self is a bit of work flash any video card bios NVIDIA or AMD without fear of bricking

Your questions imply you haven't working on a mac this deep. Maybe its best to seek out someone who has.
