My SONOS Play 1 speaker does not power up.

my SONOS Play 1 speaker does not power up. I opened it up and found blue Capacitor 360 was blackened and it looks as though the square black component nearby, 03N60C3 / GA1 530 also looks fused. I have attached some pictures. Any idea where I might find the replacement parts. Thank you very much in anticipation.

Hi @chriselvin ,

There are no pictures with your question.

Here's how to add images to your question on ifixit 在已经存在的问题里加入图片

@chriselvin looks like your power transistor is definitely on the fritz and needs to be replaced. The capacitor looks okay just blackened from the catastrophic failure of the transistor. BTW that is a Infineon product on you can download the datasheet from here

Thank you very much for your reply. Now I just need to find out how to remove and replace the fried transistor, without causing even more damage!

@chriselvin nice chisel tip on your soldering iron, plenty of flux and a desoldering wick should get it done. There might be some damage on the board as well. Once the transistor is off, clean the board and post another picture for eval

Thanks for your advice and encouragement. The part is labeled 03N60C3 and as you suggest, this seems to describe 2 parts: PG-TO251 and PG-TO252. How do I know what specifications are required in order to purchase the correct parts? The Infineon site has these parts, there seem to be many different items with different voltage and current specs. How do I know which part numbers are correct?

@chriselvin

The TO-251 and TO-252 are just the component package type as can been seen in this link

The one in your device is a 03N60C3 in a TO-252 package

See the component connections to the board - TO-251 all 3 legs are on one side The TO-252 has 2 on one side and it looks like the case may be connected on the other side.

Thanks for your reply. Can you please suggest a supplier and ID number for the correct power transistor replacement part. As I mentioned above, I'm not quite sure which product specs are relevant for the correct replacement part.

@chriselvin

Best I can find is search for a SPD03N60C3ATMA1 (supplier example only but Digikey has them in stock)

The important information is that it is a 03N60C3 and that it comes in a TO-252 package.

The part number is the rating specifications and the package type gives the dimensions, lead spacing and sizes so that it will fit correctly onto the connections on the board.

I suggest that you order 2-3 as you may find that it is actually another problem on the board that is the problem and this component having failed is only the symptom rather than the fact that this component failed of its own volition.

Hopefully I'm wrong and that replacing the component resolves the problem and not that the new component will also subsequently fail as well and you then have to find out why. Sonos does not publicly release schematics (or none that I can find) so board level repairs without one is difficult

Thank you so much for your helpful advice. I'm trying to track down the correct item from another supplier (RS Components Pty. Limited, NSW). I will also check with Digikey. Once I have the part, I'll replace as described above, and reply to the forum.

Thanks again,

Chris

@jayeff

I just checked the Digikey website and they have a part that looks like the correct item. I have copied the Digikey part number details here: SPD03N60C3ATMA1-ND.

Could you pls confirm that this product has the correct specs?

Regards,

Chris

@jayeff

Just heard from Digikey in Australia that they don't stock this part. I'm yet to hear from RS Components.

Cheers,

Chris
