iMac Display won’t turn on after upgrading RAM & SSD

GREETINGS!

I followed along a trusty YouTube video. Ordered all the proper items. I formatted & cloned the new drive. It all seemed pretty simple.

Before applying the new adhesive I gave it a test run and have no display. Of the 4 LED indicators on the inside, the bottom 2 are green. I tried: unplugging SSD, plugging in old Drive, new outlet, unplugging power cable, connecting keyboard, jiggling (lightly) the monitor cables, drinking…..nothing. What can I do….

PLEASE HELP

New SSD: Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA // New RAM: A-TECH 16GB (2 8GB)

Ouch! Sadly the YouTube guide is recommending using a single edge razor blade which is not what you want to use. What happens is when you push it in you also tend to cut the LCD displays ribbon cables as seen here

You’ll need a new display assembly to fix this.

I used no razor blade, or anything that would have sliced. Unless it can be cut by thin plastic like a guitar pick.

I can’t quite tell where that photo is looking on the monitor. Can you elaborate a bit?

@ajmccloat - Its along the top edge, these cables feed to the T-CON board and then to your logic board.

Ok I just looked at it and there’s no slicing that I can see. I bought the kit to cut the adhesive. Looks like a mini pizza cutter. Then a tool that has a tip like a guitar pick and a depth control measurement is call it.

UGH! Everything was going so well until this.

IF you use the pizza cutter and didn't use a knife then you didn't damage the ribbon cables then, If you pried the display up you could have damaged the LCD panel its self with micro fractures of the Metal Oxide pathways.

But I'm thinking the display cable and the logic board connector could be damaged. Keep in mind the display needs to be connected for the onboard diagnostic LED's to respond fully.

I was extremely careful, surgical even. Do you make house calls? Lol

There Is something though....the two ribbon cables; the one with the pull tab and the other I’m gonna call power cable. The power cable was very tough to get out, really had to squeeze the sides and such. When I re-connect it, I can easily pull it out. I have tried my best to press on it and secure it without damaging the cables but it seems loose still...
