I bought an Macbook Pro off of eBay with no HDD and found out that it was firmware locked. The SSD I bought is still being delivered but I was wondering if I put the SSD in the Macbook, will the Macbook be usable or will I still have to type in the firmware lock password?

How do you unlock firmware on Macbook Pro?
Reboot the Mac and hold down Command+R to enter recovery mode. At the Utilities screen, go to the Utilities menu bar item and choose “Firmware Password Utility” Select to turn the Firmware Password to OFF.

Wouldn’t I need to know the password to access recovery mode?
You wont know until you give it a try. But Dan is the real Mac expert on iFixIt. I'm more Windows but have worked on Mac a lot.
