Controller Stuck on player 1(NOT IN WINDOWS)

Hi everyone,i have a weird problem and wonder if someone bumped into it and can help me.So,a friend came yesterday with his old trusty Xbox360 Controller in order to fix an issue.I have some experience with them but i haven`t seen this fault ever in my life.No matter if your xbox is around ,if you put batteries in the controller,it powers on by itself,and is stuck on player one,the sync button doesn`t work,nor the power button.Is it possible that the motherboard is shorted or dead?
