The GameCube is Nintendo's fourth console gaming system. Repair is simple and requires only common tools.

Console will not read a clean disc

I’ve had this gamecube for a while now and it’s never given me an issue. The other day, however, I picked up a copy of Super Smash Bros Melee that has issues. It will load up to certain points and then give me the “disc could not be read” message. opening and closing the tray like 15 times allows me to get to the next portion of the game where I encounter the same problem. the disc looked super clean but I had it buffed at a local game store anyway and still get the same results. I have already adjusted the laser POT (160 ohms) and still nothing. again, I can play any other game fine but Melee is incredibly difficult to get anything out of.

Is the laser lens dirty? And does the disc appear to be "rotting"? If it seems to be "rotting", you might need a new copy. I would try it with a different copy of the same game and see what happens. If it works on a different copy, it's probably the disc.

Here's another idea: If you have a functional original model Wii (RVL-001) handy, try putting your disc in that and see if it works. That might give you a better idea as to whether it's the GameCube or the disc.

Hi!

As other games work, I would leave the Gamecube as it is. It's probably related to the disc... I would get yourself a new copy of the game and see if it works then.

It's most likely related to the game. How clean it looks wouldn't say anything, it could be a super small scratch which is hard to see on the top side or bottom side causing it.
