What defect is causing this?

This image shows what happens if I don't have it connected to an HDMI external display. I can boot to safe mode the internal monitor has no issue (not connected w/ HDMI) once reset within 30 sec after desktop is shown the internal display goes out (image provided) I have ran hardware detect (booting + D) no errors found, nvram reset and smc reset done no difference. But all is good as soon as I plug in HDMI both external and internal monitor blink then come back working no issues only once HDMI is unplugged I get either a fading out on internal or it does the image provided. Is it the internal screen? Or logic board? Please help this is racking my brain.

Troubleshot: (without resolve)

  • Reseated all internal logic board display connectors
  • Reseated connecters on internal screen itself
  • Removed ribbon cable connecting HDMI/wifi board to main board
  • Reset NVRAM
  • Reset SMC
  • Swapped SSDs 256 to 128 and back reloaded fresh OS installs on both drives

Update (04/15/2020)

Also now when the HDMI is plugged in, the internal display flickers just slightly?

Sadly you have a logic board issue with either the Thunderbolt ports or the MUX logic within the PCH Chip has a problem.

Update (04/16/2020)

The flicker you now see is signal noise from the bad logic on the logic board.

You'll need to either find someone with the needed skills and tools to diagnose and replace the damaged components. Or, just replace the logic board: 替换MacBook Pro 13‘’Retina显示器2015年早期版本的主板 Within the guide is the parts info.

There is nothing you can do fully fix this without diving into fixing the logic board or replacing it.
