Can I use 2 x 8gb RAM in my iMac?

I bought, by mistake 16GB RAM for my iMac in the form of 2 x 8GB, rather than 4 x 4GB. Will it work?

Update (04/11/2020)

Hi Mayer.

Thanks for the reply. I bought the correct ram as per the details above, but bigger than the recommended max of 4gb per slot. I rendered after that I had two old ram from my MacBook Pro, so I put them in and it seems to be working. I’m not 100% sure if they made a difference though as my iMac needs a few additional upgrades. I note that my wifi speed seems to be very slow too. Are you aware if the airport cards give trouble?
