No touch after digitizer replacement

I was brought an iPad 4 CDMA with a broken display. I ordered a replacement and when it arrived I installed it.

Everything went good with the install but there was no touch. I tried disconnecting and connecting it a few times and it did not help. I then hooked up the original broken display and everything worked so I called iFixit and they sent out a replacement.

When that one showed up I installed it and the same thing happened, no touch but the original display works.

There has to be an explanation for this, right?

What am I missing?

I went through at least 4 digitizers to get one that worked properly on an iPad 5. The bad units partially worked — they had dead spots on the touchscreen. Never saw one be completely dead, but I suggest trying again. Make sure you’re getting the correct generation/model digitizer.

I tried pretty much the whole display on both of them and nothing.

The home button that came with both of them does work.

I’ve double checked the model number, so I don’t think that I ordered the wrong part.

Another possibility is that the flex connector is getting dislodged during re-assembly. When you pull up the digitizer check for damage to the flex cable. If it’s ok, then re-seat the cable and test with the unit open to see if you get any response.

I haven’t done gen 4, but on gen 5 the flex cable had to be folded just right for it to fit in without damaging it.
