Why am I getting a kernel panic at boot

my macbook throws up a kernel panic every time i try to boot the os or a bootale usb with a mac os install disc on it. the weird thing is that i was able to boot a usb with memtest on it so i pretty much took that as it can boot something on a usb. what do you all think could be the cause of this cause it’s stumping me. i don’t know what os version is on it currently as i bought it in non working condition to try and repair it

You should be able to find the log file on the boot drive which has the panic report. With it you might be able to figure out what was the cause. Post it here so we can see it as well.

How can I find that file if I can't access the drive

@techlord - There are a few ways you can do this. First you do need access to a second Mac system. Then you can connect your drive via an external drive case or SATA to USB adapter. Depending on the model you could also fit the drive internally. The last option is to boot your system up in Target Disk Mode and using a cable connect the two systems together Understanding the Applications for Target Disk Mode

I think I figured it out last night. I was able to hook it up with an enclosure to my windows 10 laptop and use a program hfsexplorer but couldn't find any recent log file just old ones from 2018. I then used a program called hard disk sentinel to check the drives health and it definitely is a bad drive so if I can find a working disc image of Mac os tiger, leopard, snow leopard, or lion that can be put on a USB then I should be able to get it working
