Any help with my Whirlpool freezer? I have drinking water dispensing f

Any help with my Whirlpool freezer? I have drinking water dispensing from front however no water making it into ice tray.  Replaced icemaker, filter and water intake valve.  No blockage in line to ice maker.  What can be causing the problem?

Whirlpool refrigerator model #WRS325FDAM01

It has one water intake valve in the rear of the unit that I replaced with Whirpool # WPW10179146. One line for the water dispenser in the front (which works fine) and one line for the ice maker (not working)

Not sure how to check for power to the water intake valve. The new one installed did not help resolve the problem. I also installed a new ice maker. Whirpool #WPW10300022 and still no ice. Water pressure is good and line to ice maker is not blocked.

Hi @helpusplease ,

What is the model number of the freezer?

Does it have two water intake valves, one for the water dispenser and one for ice maker?

Have you checked if there is power getting to the water intake valve for it to operate when water to fill the ice tray is required?

Wow, looks of work for no results. There’s only a couple of things left to try:

Door Switch

The door switch turns off the ice and water dispenser when the refrigerator door is open. If the door switch fails, the dispenser will not turn on. To determine if the door switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the door switch does not have continuity when activated, replace it.

Icemaker Mold Thermostat

The icemaker mold thermostat monitors the temperature of the ice mold (ice tray). Once the mold reaches the proper temperature, the icemaker ejects the ice cubes and refills the ice mold with water. If the mold thermostat is defective, the ice maker will stop making ice. To determine if the thermostat is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the mold thermostat does not have continuity, replace it. (Note: If the ice maker is not cold enough, the mold thermostat contacts will open. If the thermostat contacts are open, the ice maker will not make ice. The ice maker temperature must generally be lower than 20 degrees Fahrenheit for the thermostat contacts to close.)

Water Filter

A clogged water filter can restrict the flow of water to the dispenser and prevent the ice maker from working properly. The water filter should be replaced about every six months to maintain proper water flow and ensure water quality.

Hi @helpusplease ,

Looking at an image of the water inlet valve it has two coils. One for each outlet valve, dispenser and ice maker

When the ice maker requires water to fill the tray, check if voltage is getting to the coil that opens the valve that connects to the ice maker line.

Use a DMM (AC Voltmeter setting >200V) connect between earth (frame of fridge bare metal) and a terminal on the coil. If not on one terminal try the other.

Be safety aware it is possible lethal voltage (not sure whether or not it is mains power or not) at the valve point but be careful anyway.

How it works on other fridges is that there is a lever in the ice maker that operates a switch when the water level is low and this sends an earth signal to the control board which then sends voltage to operate the valve to open the flow.

When the required water level in the tray is reached the switch is released and the control board turns off power to the valve.

So the problem could either be between the ice maker and the control board or between the control board and the valve or even in the control board.
