Maximum RAM Upgrade for 1286A

My MacBook Pro 1286A (Late 2008) came installed with 2GB of RAM. It's in need of an update. According to Apple, the max it can handle is 4GB, but I'm reading online that some these can be upgraded to 8GB. If I can go to 8GB, I'd like to.

Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Try using "Mactracker" (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mactracke...), it's a free application that'll tell you the maximum amount of ram your Mac will support, along with pretty much everything you need to know about every other Apple product ever made.

There is new firmware for the Late 2008 Macbook Pros that allow 8GB of ram to be supported.

Apple released this 2-28-2012.

I'm using this on my Late 2008 MBP with 8GB ram and it works great. It doesn't say anything about the ram limit being higher but OWC did testing and it works fine.

Mitch, I know about the update, I'm trying to help you become a better answers contributor. What I was trying to get you to do was the work. As a new contributor or an old one, you really need to support an answer. Even the link you gave says nothing about the RAM change. The link you should have given was the one that supports your statement. That's this one: http://blog.macsales.com/9102-secret-fir...

Thanks for the link, I didn't know it was there. I was just pointing to the firmware update that the person needed.
