Right side USB jammed

Idk really what has happened. I have tried checking the connector with a flashlight, but can’t really see anything wrong. Nothing is inserting in completely resulting nothing working. I have tried a mouse, a USB drive but all have the same issue on not inserting into the USB port. Left side port does work fine. What should I do?

You mean the USB port next to the card reader (and thunderbolt) right? This one is directly on the motherboard and not on the I/O board.

I saw this a few times before, USB port looks fine from the outside and inside, and still not working due "power failures". It's possible that it's just broken... After replacing the mainboard it was fixed (in my experience). Perhaps it has something to do with the USB controller.

Are you able to fully insert the USB plug cleanly?

I would recommend getting this tool USB Mini Voltmeter so you can see if the port is able to power your external devices. As an alternative method you should be able to plug in AC powered USB hub and then use your device off of it.

Often I find people have mixed up their power bricks (or has a bad one) so you over power a device which then sends power to your MacBook burning out the USB port.

At this point one of the contacts have likely folded in on you so it’s blocking the plug. Here’s a view from the bottom

As you can see the Right side port from the top view point (left here) is the main logic board so its the more expensive part to replace - Ouch!

Replacing the port its self is not that easy as it has a metal shell around it and the pins are through hole so they are hard to desolder without causing more damage. While using your system with just the one port is quite usable you still want to remove the risk of any shorting of that bent pin.

The issue is that this is the port that I need to use. I have to use a flash drive at school and a mouse at the same time, and bringing in an usb hub isn’t really in my mind. Thx anyway.

One thing I noticed is that when I plug a USB cable in, with the screws tighten up the whole backpanel flexes a bit from the USB. Starting to think something weird is going on

@piipperi800 - Can you use a Bluetooth mouse? Thats what I would do for now.

You really need to get a good lit magnifier that allows you to see fully down into the belly of the connector.

The flexing is caused by what's jammed in there. I would not push this as you will fatigue the connector and could damage your logic board. Forcing is never a good idea!
