Repair and support for ceiling-mounted bladed fans.

37 个问题 查看全部

Motor making grinding sound.

After foolishly using wd-40 to spray inside the motor through the top my fan instantly started making what sounds like metal on metal grinding. It's 100% the motor because I did this with everything off(blades, globe, casing)

I don't want to have to take apart the motor to fix it but if i have to I will. I didn't want to throw more wd-40 or 3 in 1 oil at the problem to try fixing it.

Any ideas?

Some ceiling fans have maintenance-free double sealed ball bearings that never require oiling. Other ceiling fans have a small "oil hole" above the motor. ... If it has such an oil hole, then add 4-6 drops of light machine oil (e.g., “3-in-One” oil) to lubricate the motor.

Steps

  1. Reference your fan's owner manual. Check to be sure your fan requires oil, because some models do not. ...
  2. Set up a stepladder. ...
  3. Turn off the power to your ceiling fan. ...
  4. Locate your fan's oil hole. ...
  5. Insert a pipe cleaner into the oil hole.
