PS4 makes loud noise then randomly turns off.

Whenever I turn on my PS4 it makes a loud noise, and after a bit of use the noise gets gradually louder until the whole thing turns off completely. The PS4 turns off at random times, one time it turned off after 7 seconds of it being on, another time it turned off after around 30 minutes of playtime, but it never exceeded that.

I imagine it’s some sort of an overheating issue, but the noise wasn’t from the fan. I took off the bottom cover and purposefully stopped the fan, but the noise persisted. I never tore down my PS4 past the optical drive.

I have no clue as to where this issue lies. Can someone help??

The problem is because one of the temperature sensors for either:

  • Individual VRAM chips
  • Main processor
  • VRM (Voltage regulator modules)

Have reported a temperature that exceeds the safe operating temperature range of the PS4. This is usually caused by missing or thermal pads not getting a good contact between the heat transfer plate and the component on the board.

Dry, little or no thermal paste applied on the main processing chip. The console will need to be opened to the point where the heatsink and clamps are removed. Be prepared to replace thermal paste or thermal pads if one or more are missing. Could also be a very dusty console but it’s rare for it to case that specific problem.

Edit: Another thing is that if the fan is not connected it can cause this too with the triple beep, red LED then shut off shortly after powering on.
