2014 15" MacBook Pro trackpad becoming less responsive

Mid 2014 15” MacBook Pro clicking on my trackpad is becoming less responsive.

It scrolls fine. Gestures work fine. Moving the cursor around is fine. The keyboard is working fine - responds very well. No issues there.

I’m noticing issues when I click and hold trackpad to do things like in Photoshop; to make multiple selections; to hold and select multiple words/lines of text; that sort of thing.

Occasionally just single-clicking is not as responsive. I have to click/hold with much more firmer pressure at times to make a selection.

Another example. Clicking and dragging an icon from the desktop; whether to the trash; or when I dragged the coconut battery screenshot to the image window of this forum... those are the kind of trackpad issues I am having.

I have not opened up my laptop to see if I see anything physical yet. I have no problem doing that. Coconut Battery says my battery is functioning at 99% capacity.

Is response issue common with this model or just normal wear and tear?

I don’t mind replacing/repairing myself (have done quite a few); or should Apple look at it?

Thx for answers.

It's not an OS response issue. Boot times; HD response time is same is when new.

Check your battery for swelling, thus putting pressure on the trackpad.

Thx. I know about the battery swelling issue... but haven't checked yet. Apple actually replaced a Macbook Pro battery of mine a few years ago for this issue. Will check it soon.

I’m also suffering this issue…

I purchased my machine new in 2015 and replaced the trackpad last year after a pretty obvious tracking failure. The replacement trackpad was used so this time I’m debating a new one to fix this issue. My RSI is returning.

TBH I’m done with messing around with the sensitivity [s]crew

Regards

s: Replace trackpad sensitivity torx screw - doh!!
