SATA interface not working at 6Gb/s after SSD replacement Solved

I have a MacBook Pro early 2011. I replaced the original HD with the Samsung EVO 860 SSD 500GB.

I replaced the SATA cable (I read several posts about needing to do this) and I had no problems making the switch. However, I checked the system information and it says that while the SATA port is 6.0 Gb/s, the negotiated speed is 1.5Gb/s.

Since the port and the SSD are rated for 6.0Gb/s, should I assume that the cable is faulty even though I replaced it? I purchased the newer 2012 cable but not from iFixit (maybe cable quality is the issue?).

Also, I did not know about putting electrical tape on the inside of the case to protect the cable; I read about it in a post after I completed my installation. Is there another possibility for the negotiated speed being lower or do I need to purchase a new cable again and install with the electrical tape? Thanks!

What is your OS version?

Can you take a set of snapshots of the hardware system report showing the SATA/SATA Express section clicking on both of the Intel chipset sections 在已经存在的问题里加入图片

Hi Dan - Your question made me realize what I was doing wrong. I was looking at the DVD drive information which is operating at 1.5Gb/s. When I clicked on the SSD information it shows that it is communicating at 6Gb/s as expected.

I don't know if this behavior is related, but my wife noticed that when the laptop is plugged in it works great. However, when the AC adapter is not plugged in the laptop becomes sporadic and sluggish. The battery indicator shows that the battery is full (97%). I read some posts that said to reset the PRAM and SMC; I did that but it has not changed the laptop's behavior when it is unplugged. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Dan - Thanks for the guide on inserting images. I added the results from the app (adapter connected and no adapter connected) to the original question.

Dan - Should I run the app with the AC adapter plugged in or out?

Take one each way

The battery look OK and the battery currently appears to be charged even though it presently doesn't show it is charging.

I think you'll need to run diagnostics to see whats happening here. Press and hold the D Key when you start the system up.
