Wouldn't start and dim green light on magsafe

Hi,

My magsafe plug is showing a dim green when plugged into my macbook and it wouldn’t power up and the battery quantity indicator is blinking. I disconnected my battery from the laptop, then plug in magsafe and laptop managed to boot. I only managed to do this 2 times out of 5 and everytime i unplugged the power cord from the wall socket for 5mins or so. so when it didn’t work on the 5th time i removed the logic board and found no corrosion except for this ‘chip’ that is rusted (circled red). Would like to know if i should replace logic board based on this finding?

Thanks

Kelvin

When you have a dim green light it’s because power is not reaching the heart of the logic board where main circuits and charging start. The reason is often associated with the use of aftermarket chargers that may let in overpower or overvoltages, but sometimes things just fail on their own after years of work. The inductor you marked is not a major concern, they often show oxidation even if not bad. Try using another charger if you can, to rule out a magsafe failure. If that doesn’t fix things, you’ll need a logic board component level repair or a replacement.

Thanks Arbaman. Tried another brand new magsafe and not showing any charge (no orange or green light). Looks like logic board needs replacement?

@erba28 Check also the magsafe DC in board with a good light source and some magnification since now you have no light at all, look for burnt parts, just in case. If that's fine and shiny then yes, board itself needs to be fixed or you'll have to replace it.
