Why does my hero3 silver freeze up?
How do I know if the mother board is bad in my Hero3 Silver?

We can determine if it’s a software problem or not if we factory reset your camera. If it’s a software problem it should be fixed by a factory reset. Factory resetting your camera will reset all settings you have configured!However, if you remove the SD card from the camera before doing a factory reset your videos and pictures on the SD card will be safe.
Looks like a factory reset didn’t help, nor was the storage full. I think your motherboard may be indeed kaput. Replacing it should get you back into business.
You can try to follow this guide to update the software, which may solve your problem. I think there’s more then a software issue going on here, though.
