New SSD not detected In Disk Utilities

My dad gave me his old Mac Book Pro late 2011 after his hard drive failed. I upgraded to a 250gb Crucial SSD. And I formatted a USB bootable OS X Installer, like i’ve seen many people do. When I open up Disk Utilities Only my USB shows up but not my SSD. Could my problem be the internal sata flex connecter?

Help I’m beginning to feel discouraged about spending $150 on a 8 year old machine.

Two hard disks both failing might indicate it’s not a matter of faulty hard disks. As first thing yes, try a cable replacement, it’s a straightforward and inexpensive repair. If that doesn’t solve your issue it could be a logic board failure, but let’s hope it’s just the cable.

I do strongly recommend putting in the newer cable design from the 2012 series: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable - Apple P/N 923-0104. I also recommend placing some electricians tape on the uppercase where the cable rests to help protect it from the rough surface. And lastly, don't crease the cable! You want a smooth arc around the corners.
