Hard drive cable socket on logic board broken

Must have happened when I disconnected the old cable, but really didn't notice anything when it happened. I ordered a new SATA cable and sadly, its socket on the logic board is missing the thin plastic edges which would snap the new cable's firmly in place. Now it's completely flat so there's nothing for the connector end to grip onto. I doubt there is a fix for this, other than get a new logic board or suck it up and get a new/older MBP...

It's a late 2011 15", great machine overall, but not sure if it's worth it at this point to invest more money into it, after fitting it with a 1 TB SSD and boosting its RAM to 16GB just a few months ago, now this.

Any thoughts/advice?

For someone with good soldering skills it would be a pretty straightforward repair, demanding but absolutely feasible. Forget about logic board replacement and concentrate on finding somebody who can do the job without sending the board half the world around :) Depending on your location, you're likely to find someone up to the task right here around..

Thanks for the advice, but the problem is the little plastic ledge surrounding the connector has disappeared, sorry I didn’t clarify that detail, it’s gone, it broke and flew off somewhere when I disconnected the old cable. So that connector square on the logic board is now completely flat, I would still need to get that tiny little part reassembled for the cable up wedge into.

The connector on the bard is just one part, made of plastic and copper. Whoever can solder the new connector will take care to remove it from a used board and replace your missing part. All of us doing such repairs have a pile of dead boards to dig from ;)

By the way, to continue a conversation is much better to add a comment to the answer you received rather than answering yourself anew :)

How did this go guys? I’m in the same boat - though I have the hard drive cable connector as it’s still connected to the cable. I have an entry level solder kit - should I give it a shot and fix myself? Anyone have any good link tips…?
