Replacing old HDD for new SSD

Hello, my computer has a standard 1TB HDD and is causing my laptop to crash constantly. I have reset the computer and the HDD only contains the OS at 33GB. Firstly would a 120GB SSD be enough space? I will only be using around 50-70 GB for storage.

How would i make the new SSD the boot device? ( cloning or clean install)
