Can any graphics card work in this computer?

@ulees I want to put a new graphics card in this and I’m not sure what graphics card will work. So does it matter what graphics card I put in it? Will any graphics card work? It currently has its original card installed and I’d like to put a MSI GeForce GT 730 2GB 64bit GDDR5 in it. I know that it’s PCIE 2.0 but what I’ve found is that it will work in PCIE 1.x.

@jayeff here are some photos of my graphics card:

Hi @paperboypaddy ,

It may not work properly.

The specifications for the card say that it requires that the PC has a minimum system power supply of 300W.

According to the specifications for the Dell GX620, the only variant that qualifies (just) is the Mini tower model @ 305W. All the others are <300W

Aye, but the card's draw is listed as 49 watts. If the CPU, hard disk, and other accessories add up to less than 250W, and if the PCIe power rail is strong enough, they should be able to get away with it.

There may be even less margin if it is the SFF model. It only has a 275W supply, so it is down to only 226W then for all the rest. it may be tight.

According to this, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_... , there's three variants of the 730, and the one the OP has selected is one of the two built on the 28nm process, and it actually uses 25 watts. So wahey!

They also state that on the link provided by me above, i.e. 25W for the DDR5 model but they still recommend 300W for all 3 cards so perhaps they are just covering themselves to be safe.

It's important to have a PSU above 300W if the GPU and every thing (CPU,HDD) is pushed to it's limits your PC may shut down.

Yeah, should work just fine, but be mindful of the card's power requirements and that it will physically fit in the case.

Ya I didn’t want a 1.0 card. I could only find a 512MB card that was 1.0 and I knew that I shouldn’t get a 3.0 although they are pretty amazing cards. So I think that 2.0 will work fine and a lot better than my 128mb DDR2 card.

Looks like it is yes, although not with full capabilities. I really recommend upgrading your motherboard as this PC is probably held back by its CPU and motherboard

motherboard limits the RAM to 4GB and 533 MHz

I don’t think it’s possible to upgrade cause it’s a weird motherboard. Have you seen my guides for this computer?

It appears you made them yourself though...

Oh well. I'll look

A MB upgrade would be hard, because you would need a new DVD drive, You won't have Floppy, your PSU is not compatible with the new DVD drive, well, simply put, if you want a new motherboard your gonna have to replace everything.

Yep I’ve made most of the guides for this. That’s why I have to stick to what I have. I guess my MB can only except a dual core pentium D so can’t get quad core in it. I’d like to get a Blu-ray drive instead of dvd.
