My battery and phone function terrible... why?
My phone function and battery were 100% acceptable until i updated. Now, battery is drained without much use and phone is buggy, slow, blank screen, delays... will battery replacement fix this?

Try having your battery changed at your local repair shop with a brand new battery.
also apple has took this problem public, and are offering battery replacements for $29.99.
As for your phone running slower than usual that is a problem with apple and their most recent updates, they slow you down so your able to keep your battery running fine.
I would first try the battery replacement to fix any power issues you may have, after that try backing up then restoring your device and see if that adds speed to your ios.

First lets check the reported battery health.
Use either:
- 3UTools
- Battery Life app
3UTools if you have a computer that has Windows on it.
CoconutBattery if you have a MacBook that is running Mac OS X
Battery Life app if you want to check battery health directly on the iPhone.
If the battery health is around 80% or lower, according to apple it will throttle down the phone and cause it to lag noticably.

battery ap shows battery to be 45% funny though that no deficiency in function whatsoever was present before upgrade thanks for assistance
question: is the battery replacement something the average diy can do or does it take skilled hands to get the job done?
Fairly easy to do, if you don't break the adhesive pull tabs when removing it from the battery.
60% and lower is where people start noticing the battery drains fast, I guess you got lucky?
