There was water in my TV (condensation!) and now there are stripes..

Hi there, due to some strong temperature changes my TV got condensation in it; it was actually dripping out of the bottom! I've been drying the TV out, carefully blow drying on cool and leaving it in a warm room but there are now thick vertical stripes down the left hand side of the screen. Is this TV fixable? Should I take the back off and if so how do I do it? Seems a shame to throw it away, its good TV.

It's a

Many thanks.

@gabeuk that sounds like some heavy duty humidity. Brazilian Rainforest? Anyhow, yes you will have to take a look at it. Let us know what exact model your TV is and post some good images of what your screen shows with your question. That way we can see what you see. Use this guide 在已经存在的问题里加入图片 for that. It will also help us to try and find a solution for your damaged TV

I've finally uploaded a picture! Actually I think the water came into the TV via the aerial cable....

Ok I took the back off and hair dried it (on cool) I took out video lead and dried that and reseated it.

Sadly still stripes. Any ideas as to what I could try next? Maybe something bust with the water?

Unfortunately it could be power related or component related....all modern TV sets are modular in design...which basically means each panel does a set job...and if a component blows...then the engineer "swaps " that module ...because it is easier than trying to detect and replace very tiny components.

My guess it is the video board which is sometimes separate but usually on the main board.I assume you have dried ...cleaned and reseated ALL the connections....and looked around the board for signs of burnt areas, or browning....

A tv engineer would be my next thought ..but if you are adept at fixing things ..Take the model number ...and search eBay and Amazon for the main logic board....they are usually inexpensive...

Thanks I only dried and reseated the pont that looked easiest to do! Maybe I'll have another go....

Yes it is an easy fix....make sure the tv is disconnected from the mains,...lay it flat ...face down on a bed or duvet to protect the screen and remove all the screws the hold the back panel....obviously there should be no cables left in the rear sockets...prise the back panel off and then look for the ribbon cable connector that goes from the LCD to the main video board...it needs to be cleaned and reseated......this is a good time to use the hairdryer to dry it through completely.....once you think it's dry...connect the back panel and switch on....if the lines are still there repeat the steps one one time....once the screen appears normal put the rear panel on and this should resolve this problem.

Do not go anywhere near the power supply capacitors as these can hold enough power to give you a nasty shock!..by all means dry any area that appears wet but keep your hands away from the electrics.

Ok thanks so much going to try this today. What do they look like roughky but I'll Google them too :)

In the Power Supply look for bulged capacitors - at the top of the electrolytic. If capacitors are bulged replaced them with the exact type taken from it's board location. Also, water damage may have affected the Main board ( it's the board that you connect your signal sources to; such as HDMI & RCA cables) of the TV.

Also most times when the TV screen has a raster (Blue Screen) only there's likely an issue with the T-Con board; if your TV has one. A lot of the newer televisions don't have T-CON boards. If this is the case with yours, the problem lies somewhere from the Main board to the Panel Display board. Hope this helps!
