Trackpad works at login but not after boot

I have a Macbook Air that is a customer's, given to me with water damage that seems to have affected the display (only visible issues), as well as the trackpad and keyboard. However, after investigation and a replacement of the trackpad which seemed fully nonfunctional, the trackpad and keyboard now fully function on the login screen but fail to respond once reaching the desktop.

OSX asks if I want to setup a bluetooth keyboard so I know it is fully not recognized. I also have reinstalled OSX in order to try revitalize the situation but to no avail. Is this is software issue or still potentially hardware??

Thank you!!

SPI signal issue from the SPI ROM to the trackpad, usually caused by liquid damage on the SPI ROM at the edge of the board. The MacBook uses a different interface for the trackpad/keyboard on the login or boot screen than when it is in the OS.

Check joints if the SPI ROM/BIOS and resolder if any look bad. Check components in this area as well as traces. Sometimes caused by the trackpad PCB or trackpad cable, but usually only if pins or components are corroded/burnt.

So if I am not able to solder, would checking that trackpad cable be the last step I could do before needing to send it off somewhere here in the states to be resoldered? Thank you by the way for the contribution

Yes, and you confirm liquid damage?

Hello again. I've replaced the board on the computer but that hasn't fixed the problem unfortunately. I'm assuming that means we're simply looking at the trackpad cable as the problem? Frustrating but I should have checked that first. Correct? Still have the same symptoms that it works on the log screen but not after login.

Unless the pins on the trackpad cable are physically burnt, it will be the trackpad, but try one just in case. Could be software related, tried booting into an external drive?

Your trackpad (most likely) or cable (less likely) or both are the most likely suspects.

Examine them for liquid damage. If they are corroded, try cleaning them with isopropyl alcohol 90% or better.

Make sure they are properly seated.

If none of the above works, try replacing them, starting with the trackpad.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery first when opening your computer and reconnecting it last just before you test.

I've already replaced the trackpad. Originally there was no life at all now there's life only on the boot menu
